BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH
Updating our Constitution
At our Annual meeting we will be voting on updating our Constitution to align with the rest of the ELCA. There are hard copies of our new constitution with recommendations from Bethel’s council available in the office, as well as electronic copies on our Facebook page and here.
The main changes are:
The confession of faith, nature of the church, and statement of purpose have been greatly expanded.
The powers of the congregation, description of church affiliation, and property ownership are much more detailed and explicit.
There is an expansion of types of membership.
The section on calling a pastor (a Minister of Word and Sacrament) is significantly more detailed and includes instructions on calling a deacon (a Minister of Word and Service).
There is now a section of discipline of members.
Deacons will now be referred to as Ministry Assistants since ‘deacon’ now means a called and rostered Minister of Word and Service who has attended seminary and performed an internship.
We will meet via Zoom on January 31st at 2 pm. Watch your Staying Connected newsletter for the meeting code and the phone number if you'd prefer to call in. Join us as we do the vital business of the church: electing officers, approving a budget, hearing about how we have lived into God's mission, and planning for the future!
BIBLE IN A YEAR
Read the entire Bible with us! Starting February 1, 2020, going through January 30, 2021, we'll read all of our scriptures together! Check out the Bible in a Year page to see the schedule and to find out about small groups, catch up days, and Bible studies.
MEET OUR PASTOR!
Pastor Bridget Jones was called to Bethel in June 2018 and began on August 4th, 2018! She joins us from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago where she graduated with her Master of Divinity with an Environmental Emphasis. She is excited to join this community and see how the Holy Spirit is moving in this place.
"...then come, let us go up to Bethel, that I may make an altar there to the God who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone.”
OUR CHURCH COMMUNITY
Bethel Lutheran Church (ELCA) is a vibrant congregation in Superior dedicated to serving the spiritual needs of the surrounding community. Bethel has Sunday services at 9 am and offers Sunday school for Pre-K through 8th grade at 10:20. Pastor Bridget is available for in-home, nursing home, and hospital visitations. Bethel’s choir is active offering special music and an ensemble. Members maintain a prayer chain, quilters, and a women’s group. Bethel helps feed the hungry through offsite dinners and the food shelf. We also support our South Superior school with supplies. As a member of the Northwest Wisconsin Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we believe that we have been called to do God's work with our hands. Contact us, or visit us to learn more about how to become a part of our congregation.
